Reply with quote | #63 | Hi, It's my first post so an introduction is in order, I am a 45 yr old prison officer living in Huntingdon, Cambs. Like many others I have done a number of martial arts in the past but I would describe myself as a judo man, 10 yrs training and a 2nd Dan black belt for my troubles. I haven't trained seriously for the last 4 yrs or so and started to get the itch a few months back. I started a Goju Ryu class but felt frustrated, nothing wrong with Goju Ryu, it just didn't fit me, so I started researching what else was around. I found Rob Poynton's club on' tinernet and that started my research. Watched loads and loads of video's on Systema, some good, some not so, but it did seem to complement what experience I already had with loads more new stuff to learn. Anyway attended my first class on Saturday gone and loved it, of course it early days but first impressions are important and Rob came across as a genuinely nice bloke who loves his art. I took my sparring partner ' Mad' Mick, a boxer, with me as I thought he would love it, he did, especially being hit, he seriously needs psychological help. Anyway, sorry for rambling on but it is a reflection of my enthusiasm, training makes me feel so alive it's great, the forum is a great idea too. Thank you to Rob for Saturday and the other lads at the club who made us feel so welcome. I have a plan for where I want to be in about 5 yrs time and that journey has now started in earnest, I will keep you posted and no doubt give the benefit of my opinion on other topics too!!! Keep training and keep smiling, in the meantime I've got to go and hit Mick!!! |

Reply with quote | #65 | Greetings to everyone: Im 50 years old and Im a Law Enforcement Officer in the US with close to 30 years of experience and most of that time Ive been one of the senior Defensive Tactics Instructors for my department.
My martial arts background started in 1972 and I have trained on and off over the years eventually achieving the rank of black belt. Once I became a LEO there was always a need to improve my physical combat just due to the nature of the job. My department put us through all of the big name combat systems PPCT etc..we even developed our own programs like many do to fit our needs but it still seemed to lack something. The SGT that I teach with who has been my training partner for over 20 years felt the same way then one day we get the chance to go to a PCR Physical Conflict Resolution course taught by Ken J. Good and Sonny Puzikas was the other instructor and we had our introduction to what sometimes I call Systema 101. It is like many people describe as getting a new gift, despite the physical pain I had experienced due to my lack of relaxation I know I couldnt get enough and also we were to of the oldest guys there yet we survived with all of the younger people and even did better than some .
So we came back and wanted to share all of this information with the 600 Officers whom we are tasked to teach from time to time. What we did do was focus on breathing and shared this information slowly and intergrated into our departments programs. Our command staff was sold day one on the idea of breathing and relaxtion. So it was approved for us to incorporate PCR to our existing programs so systema has become a is huge part of our recruit training program. So in our search for knowledge like everyone here I own about everyone of Vladimir's DVDs as well as about 80% of what Rob has produced. I was wanted to say thank you for your time to get the information out and keep up the great work. I know that some day due to the nature of people in Systema well all might be training together. Thanks again.

Reply with quote | #67 | Hello all, I have just seen a documentary about systema and thought it would be perfect for me. I have had over the years practised wing chun, jiujitsu and a little thaiboxing and would love to try systema. Is there a club anywhere in north london? Thanks in advance. Keithr |
